I broke my bad habit of eating salty and sweet foods after realizing that this habit was unhealthy. First, I began cooking at home as much as I could so that I could control the amount of salt and sugar in my meals. I gradually reduced the salt and completely stopped adding sugar, using different spices such as black pepper, star anise, and cinnamon to add flavor rather than relying heavily on salt. Then, when I had to eat outside, I asked restaurants to use only one-quarter of the usual salt and oil and to avoid adding sugar. If a restaurant could not fulfill my request, I chose not to go back. After that, I started checking food labels carefully and avoided packaged foods and snacks with high sodium or sugar. Finally, I replaced Coke and other sugary drinks with water, coffee, or tea. After a few weeks, my sense of taste changed, and I no longer wanted salty dishes and sweet drinks. As a result, I successfully broke this bad habit and improved my overall health.
