老师我有两句话没有懂 一句是第4段的：So it is clear what kind of books I wanted to write, in so far as I could be said to want to write books at that time. 这个in so far as 我看是就此而言的意思 所以没有搞明白什么意思
还有一句是第5段的 It is his job, no doubt, to discipline his temperament and avoid getting stuck at some immature stage, or in some perverse mood 您能解释一下吗谢谢

老师 您能不能帮我讲一下过去时的虚拟语气 过去时是 If one had done sth, one would/ might have done 是这样吗

姜老师，Lesson 12, 最后一句：I see that it is invariably where I lacked a political purpose that I wrote lifeless books and was betrayed into purple passages, sentences without meaning, decorative adjectives and humbug generally. 我能理解成：
I see that, the books where I lacked a political purpose is the lifeless books which was betrayed into purple passages, and sentences without meaning decorative adjective and humbug.
这样理解对吗？ 第二个that引导的是宾语从句吗：that I wrote ...?

老师我有两句话没有懂 一句是第4段的：So it is clear what kind of books I wanted to write, in so far as I could be said to want to write books at that time. 这个in so far as 我看是就此而言的意思 所以没有搞明白什么意思

in so far as后面是接一个从句，理解为只要...，如果...  在...范围内。
e.g. In so far as I know it, it is true. 就我所知..
       In so far as you are a student, you can borrow the book. 如果你是学生，...
所以课文句子的意思是，“如果说我那时候是想写书的。“。句子用了If I would be said to want to write books..

还有一句是第5段的 It is his job, no doubt, to discipline his temperament and avoid getting stuck at some immature stage, or in some perverse mood 您能解释一下吗谢谢


discipline his temperament意思是规范控制写作者自身的性情，不能完全按着自己的喜好来写东西
avoid getting stucked...作家不能让他的作品停留在年轻不成熟的阶段，而是应该不断成长。
perverse mood即任性的执拗的

意思这么理解是没问题的的。但是that引导的不是宾语从句。
it is ....that...是一个强调句。强调的是where 引导的一个地点状语（这个状语可以表示地点，也可以表示一种situation，课文是后者。）如果不用强调句型，句子应该是
I wrote lifeless books....where I lacked a political purpose.

对的，表示和过去发生的情况相反。
比如，
事实：she didn't come to the party yesterday.  So I didn't give her the present.
虚拟语气： If she had come to the party yesterday, I would have given her the present.
